I dont have natural gas in my garage and the propane torpedo heater stinks so I combined them. Didnt spend a penny. Obviously I need to work on the fuel mixture and get a bigger tank.

Hey guys its me again. I need heat in my garage and I need some advice from other garage owners. Unfortunately wood stove is out of the question due to insurance reasons.

********First off I am a licensed Electrician and know all the safety concerns when dealing with electricity, do not try this or things like this at home, if you touch the wrong thing it can kill you instantly, more people are killed each year with 120 volts than any other voltage…********** NOW gettin to the video… The blower is out of an old dryer i took apart several years ago, the motor is not the stock one i had to replace it, used to use it as a fan. And i found an old broker dryer heating element in my attic that was “bad” took it apart and the wire in the element coil had burnt in to, so i twisted it together and put a bolt and nut on it works fine. The motor runs off of 120 Volts AC, and the element runs off of 240 volts ac, on the side it says 5400 watts, and it draws aprox 23 amps at 240 volts. It warms my garage up just fine, but this is a TEMPORARY SETUP, i am planning to build a mini furnace out of it. it got down to the mid 30′s the night i shot this video and we were workin out in the garage late that night.

The water heater is located in the garage next to the water softener. If you ever have the water shut off, you need to turn off the gas supply to the water heater, otherwise the heater will be damaged. The T&P valve should be exercised/tested every few months. The outlet of the T&P valve runs through the wall to the front of the garage and you should see water running down the driveway while testing. The drain valve on the bottom of the should be connected to a regular garden hose that leads outside and then opened fully for ~5minutes. I do this every 6 months as it helps clear out any sediment in the bottom of the heater which saves you money, decreases the recovery rate, and increases the lifespan of the heater. This was my personal scrap heap challenge! To build a simple workshop heater that can be run on Bio-Diesel without spending thousands! For years I have wanted to scrap this old paraffin blow torch as it needed a good rebuild and never worked right! So after a few quick rebuilds, I decided to spend a few hours making some new parts! Now it works as it did when it was new! Cost to run on home made bio diesel? About 2p per hour! Or 1 cent per hour! Consumption around 0.1 litre per hour Heat Output? Between 2 3 KW? Heat output based on temperature rise over 3 hrs Compared to normal electric 2 – 3Kw fire heating! Costing around 45p per hour! Large Detached Double Garage – single brick Apex roof – Full of heat absorbing items! Temperature rise 5 degree’s in 1 hour! Design is not perfect and added an asbestos solder mat over cone and blow torch to catch slight un-burnt fuel fumes. Project now? To build a larger tank version with twice the heat output! A lot safer and with enclosed flue system! Watch this space!!!!! Good old technology never goes away? Look forward to your comments and any help on this project!
